Born in Melbourne, Australia, Anne Harvey-Nagl began her violin studies in Melbourne with Brian Blake, Nelli Shkolnikova and Spiros Rantos. In 1986 she was the winner of the “National Youth Concerto Competition” and in 1990, after graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Arts in Music (Distinction), she received the ANZ International Fellowship for musical studies overseas, as well as the Pinschof Foundation Scholarship, enabling her to study with Professor Günter Pichler at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 1994, Anne appeared as soloist with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra during their “Presenting Young Artists” Series.Anne Harvey-Nagl is Concertmaster of the Volksoper Vienna (Austria). Before her appointment to Concertmaster in 2011, Anne was Principal 1st Violin in the Volksoper for 12 years. Anne is also Concertmaster of the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra, Ensemble Kontrapunkte, and a frequent soloist and Concertmaster of the Vienna Mozart Orchestra.
In 2013, Anne performed Beethoven Violin Concerto with Stonnington Symphony Orchestra (Australia). At the Classionata Festival (Switzerland) in 2015, Anne performed Mozart Violin Concerto No. 5, and again in March 2016 with the Melbourne Musicians.
Anne concertises frequently with renowned ensembles such as the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Klangforum Wien, “die reihe”, the Wiener Kammerphilharmonie, as well as with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Radio Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR and the Royal Flemish Philharmonic. She is a founding member of the highly acclaimed Australian World Orchestra.
Anne has performed at “Carinthischer Sommer”, “Wien Modern”, “Musica Sacra Maastrich”, “Festival St. Gallen”, “Woodend Winter Arts Festival, Australia” as well as on concert tours throughout Europe, China, Korea, Japan, Australia, the USA and the Near East.
A member of the Koehne Quartet since 1992, Anne is also a member in a number of other Vienna-based chamber music ensembles including the Nexus Quartet, Ensemble 5, Classic Alpin, the Chamber Ensemble of the Vienna Volksoper, and “Die Wiener Biedermeier Solisten”. Recent duo performances in Austria and Australia include recitals with pianists Ilse Schumann-Montocchio, Gerrit Priessnitz, John O’Donnell, Kristian Chong and violinists Susannah Ng and Miki Tsunoda.
