The Camerata Köln is one of the world’s most traditional chamber music ensembles for early music. A handful of music students founded this ensemble at the Cologne University of Music in 1979. Enthusiasm for the music of the 17th and 18th centuries, will and imagination for completely new sounds and forms of interpretation, artistic discussion and stage presence in combination with a proper degree of research and spontaneous desire to make music have shaped the work of the ensemble and its international concert activity since that time. After many years and extensive study of the well-known and lesser-known composers of the Baroque and classical periods, the ensemble members Michael Schneider – recorder, Karl Kaiser – traverse flute, Christine Busch – violin, Rainer Zipperling – cello and Sabine Bauer – harpsichord see themselves today as musical ambassadors of an art that can touch people emotionally, mentally and aesthetically and is always up-to-date. Feeling, energy and structure, these great themes of the present, are exemplarily felt and shaped in the music of Monteverdi, Bach and Mozart. Your presentation always remains a challenge.
The union of opposites, expression and maturity, enthusiasm and relaxed skill are qualities that critics and the public repeatedly attest to the concerts and numerous CD productions of Camerata Köln.
