Caylee Hammack will release her 2nd full length album that will feature 13 new tracks including the already released songs – “The Hill” & “Breaking Dishes”. She co-wrote all the songs on the new album and has been featured on several tracks with other artists including- Ashley McBride, Miranda Lambert, and others. She has been nominated for the ACM-New Female Artist of the Year.Caylee Hammack holds nothing back on her second album, a dynamo produced by Brothers Osborne’s John Osborne. She is a powder keg ready to blow, surrounded by thumping drums, racing rhythm and boogaloo spice, on “Cleopatra,” issuing regal threats against any man who dares to forsake her. “Breaking Dishes” crackles with Ashley McBryde-style sass and swagger—Osborne’s honky-tonk electric guitar strutting like a banty rooster—as Hammack tries on the country trope of tearing up/burning down a place when love goes wrong. “I’m so tired,” she sings, wringing everything out of that line before declaring herself “a wrecking ball waiting to swing.” As the banjo buzzes, you can practically hear the temperature rising in the studio. Hammock’s voice packs a wallop, too, on the retro, weepy, Tammy Wynette-esque “Back Again,” and she shows knockout tremolo power on “Bed of Roses,” a twanged-out, banjo- and mandolin-led power ballad that doesn’t even pretend to nod at pop. Natalie Hemby adds backing vocals to that one, while Fancy Hagood joins in on “Mammas”—an interpolation of the Willie and Waylon classic “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” with lyrics tweaked to be about the dangers of falling in love with loping range rovers. A-list fiddler Jenee Fleenor brings high spirits to “The Hill,” a Celtic-flavored mountain music tune written by Tenille Townes. One of the bonuses of having Osborne in the studio is that you also have one of Nashville’s best guitarists on hand but he also shines on Bed of Roses when he lightly sings behind Hammack on “What My Angels Think of Me.” Ian Fitchuk (who co-produced and co-wrote Kacey Musgraves’ Deeper Well) hops on the piano for “No I Ain’t,” a moody shuffle that recalls country’s ’80s ladies. So does the torch song “How Long,” while bluesy “Bread & Butter” finds Hammack flirting and winking like Grace Potter. And when she quiets down on “Oh, Kara,” a sweet acoustic number, it’s like seeing a woman for the first time without her bright red lipstick. – Shelly Ridenour
