Charif Megarbane is an incredible composer and musician from Beirut, Lebanon. We released his album “Marzipan“ last year. He is not only a gifted musician though, he is also a super productive one, on his Bandcamp he has shared over 100 albums with the world. In order to find an outlet for his productivity, we figured we should start a little series of limited edition releases.Charif said the following about the release: “Hamra / Red“ is a grainy, beattape-style collection of instrumentals loosely attached to the perception of a colour, or a place (Hamra, the red one, is an eternally bustling Beirut neighbourhood). Each sleeve design composition and adorning polaroid might be unique, yet they´re all connected by their elements, their instruments. Just like the songs, leaving the cracks in intentionally. The colour red manifested itself throughout the assemblage of this project, whether in objects inspiring the song titles or the happenstance of encountering poppy flower fields during polaroid sessions. The singles reflect these different facettes: “Pesce Rosso“´s mid-tempo march innocent and wide-eyed, “Stella Marina“´s dubby echoes more exuberant and snarky. Two sides of one colour, two colours of one side.“
