Bach Restored is entirely devoted to reconstructions of lost Bach works. Harpsichordist, musicologist and co-artistic leader of Combattimento, Pieter Dirksen, spent years conducting in-depth research into the origins of harpsichord works that he wrote for his sons. After thorough ‘restoration work’, an album has been created that consists entirely of never-before-made reconstructions of five works by Bach from the late Weimar period (c.1716) to the later period in Leipzig (c.1740). The violin is on a pedestal on this album in the form of works with one, two and even three solo violinists. The solos are performed by, among others, the two unsurpassed violinists of Combattimento, Cynthia Freivogel and Quirine van Hoek.
