Corridor will release “Mimi”, the Montreal band’s new album, worldwide on Sub Pop. The eight-track album, which includes the highlights “Jump Cut”, “Mon Argent” and “Mourir Demain”, was produced by Corridor and Joojoo Ashworth (Dummy, Automatic) at Studio Gamma in Montreal. All songs on “Mimi” were composed by Corridor, the lyrics were written by guitarist and singer Jonathan Robert.Corridor’s last release was “Junior”, which was released in 2019. The album and its singles were praised by PASTE: “The French-Canadian quartet may write and perform in French, but rock music of this quality is something we can all understand.” Bandcamp praised the “strong melodies and driving rock structures that reference everything from shoegaze and post-punk to krautrock and psych”.
“Mimi” by Corridor, which incidentally is named after Jonathan’s cat, is an album about “getting older” and “figuring out new areas of life” – but for all the band’s claims of transitional growing pains, “Mimi” is also an album bursting with new energy and life, with a distinct rhythmic pulse reminiscent of the classic post-punk era that fused dance and rock textures. This is evident in “Mourir Demain,” where Robert addresses his looming troubles over bright, ringing guitars and soaring synthesizers. “I wrote it when my girlfriend and I were taking out life insurance,” he laughs. “As our little girl was growing up, we were also thinking about making our wills. I said to myself, ‘Oh shit, I’m going to start planning my death slowly from now on’.”
