Daan oostdam belongs to the new generation of top pianists and presents his great love for Nikolai Medtner with his new album Idylle. Medtner’s music is still too little mentioned in one breath with the compositions of great contemporaries such as Rachmaninov and Skriabin. This Brilliant album shows that this is completely unjustified: Nikolai Medtner was an absolute genius, with very beautiful and idiosyncratic works for, among other things, piano solo. omusic offers a rich landscape of harmonic and melodic ingenuity that is strongly reminiscent of his rich song oeuvre and Russian poetry. The fact that Oostdam himself regularly makes big treks through nature is clearly audible in his colorful melody and careful phrasing, which are just as surprising and lively as a long walk through a nature reserve.
