Acidic Ghanaian highlife meets funk on this legendary 1978 set that sounds like fusion from another dimension. Historic!
Dan Boadi scored a huge hit with his first widely-available album “ABRABO”, so he traveled to the USA to record “Money is the Root of All Evil”. Produced in Chicago, it captures the red-hot essence of the era’s best funk and soul without losing the Ghanaian highlife edge, even managing to melt reggae rhythms into the cosmic slop. The result is an album that might be best described as fusion, but avoids any awkward trappings, sounding unique and vital. Crate diggers and breaks freaks will no-doubt already be onto this one, for the rest of us this is simply a killer album that joins the dots between continents and genres, finding a rich seam of creativity.
