Blue Heart Records is pleased to announce the signing of three-time Blues Music Award nominee Dave Keyes. The New York City native keyboardist, singer and songwriter is a veteran of the Blues, Roots and Americana music scene. He was named “Best Unsigned Artist” by Keyboard magazine.Throughout a career of more than thirty years, Keyes has performed both at home and abroad with some of the most important figures of blues, roots and folk music, including long musical relationships with Odetta, David Johansen, Bo Diddley, rockabilly legend Sleepy LaBeef and gospel great Marie Knight. For the last 10 years, in addition to his own band and solo gigs, Keyes has worked with bluesman Popa Chubby, gospel/blues innovator Alexis P. Suter and the Ministers of Sound, and the late rock and roll queen Ronnie Spector. Additionally, Keyes has held sideman duties in support of a veritable who’s who of roots music masters including Eddy Clearwater, Big Jay McNeely, Tracy Nelson, Gladys Knight, Pam Tillis, Darlene Love, and the late greats Ruth Brown, Lou Rawls and Levon Helm.
Having toured the world both as a solo artist and with his band, for his seventh album, Rhythm Blues & Boogie, Keyes returns to his own soulful roots, melding musical influences including New Orleans funk, country, roots rock, blues, and everything in between. Special guests include legendary drummer Bernard “Pretty” Purdie; Early Times; and multi-Blues Music Award winner Doug MacLeod, who performs their acoustic collaboration, “Invisible Man.”
“It is inspiring to add an artist of Dave’s caliber to our roster,” says Blue Heart Records label partner, Sallie Bengtson. “His music reflects the breadth of his expertise, not only within the American roots genres, but to Broadway and beyond.”
“I am so excited to be joining forces with Sallie Bengtson, Betsie Brown and the rest of the Blue Heart team for the release of my 7th CD, Rhythm Blues & Boogie,” says Keyes. “The savvy, smarts and passion they will bring to this project is a combination that I have been trying to find for a long, long time. Looking forward to working together and getting the music out there!”
