The Sydney five-piece have unveiled another taste of their debut record. Equal parts cinema and grit, Eagle Eye Jones’ debut album invites you into a lush, textural world of poeticism, philosophy, beauty and song-craft.
And it seems things have shifted up a gear, with ‘New Growth’ seeing the group revel in a state of forlorn contemplation and pushing beyond the rockier sounds that we came to love on Moon Rose Red EP. Symphonic and breathy, it’s hard not to get completely sucked in by the tune, which clocks in at a tidy five minutes.
Accompanying the track is a clip that matches the track’s intensity nicely. Directed by Lev Jutsen, it follows a seemingly lost man played by the band’s Toby Jones on a wandering journey through group therapy, friendships, and madness. Plus there’s a big fire thing, which I’m sure has a deep metaphorical meaning, but simply looks very cool too…“New growth is a melding of music and cinema that explores the intimate, interwoven story of five friends through addiction and breakthrough, triumph and desperation, amity, and evolution,” the band says of the track. “An innocent character wanders through rough terrain and inner turmoil, only to be led by friends to a cinematic oasis where the past is left behind and everything makes perfect sense.”
