Eivind Opsvik, born and bred in Norway but resident in New York City for some two decades, has developed an utterly individual musical soundprint, one that blends the song-minded composition and creative studio craft of art rock with the virtuosic edge and spontaneity of progressive jazz.
NYC Bassist Eivind Opsvik returns with the fifth album of his Overseas project, Overseas V, out March 17th, 2017. Few groups and concepts have lasted as long, and have charted as much ground, as Overseas – a perennially hip, cinematic and cutting edge group featuring some of the brightest lights in the world of music: Tony Malaby (tenor sax), Brandon Seabrook (guitar), Jacob Sacks (pianos), and Kenny Wollesen (drums). The leader’s compositions for this album incorporate influences from early 80s New Wave bands, elegant post production, and at its core, impeccable musicianship and interplay amongst this very special ensemble.
