The Czech baroque ensemble is an independent association, and therefore it is not easy in the current covid-I-fit time. You could say he’s fighting for survival. But he fights bravely and, perhaps, successfully.
František ignác Tůma was a Czech musician who lived and formed in the mid-18th century. century. A native of Kostelec nad orlicí, he had a similar fate, like many Czech musicians of that time. He studied with the Jesuits in Prague, later in Vienna. He worked for count and Chancellor František Ferdinand Kinski, who allowed him to continue his studies. Later he became composer and bandleader of Empress Elisabeth in Vienna. He worked as a pedagogue and composer and left many temple compositions, especially masses, which are baroque, but already anticipate the emerging classicism, which was close to tům as a Czech composer. However, he remained faithful to the old school, and therefore his compositions fell into oblivion and did not play, as musical development and taste went further.
Thanks to its artistic director and conductor Roman válek, the Czech baroque ensemble seeks out such composers and brings their works to life. František ignác Tůma has become their centre of interest and will be their “court” composer for several more concert seasons. The conductor, who is also the dramaturg of the ensemble, approaches this work with enthusiasm and erudition and has experienced and professional musicians to perform under the leadership of the first violin Elen machová. The learned baroque interpretation is a matter of course for the ensemble and the instruments are handled with professionalism. The singing part of the Czech ensemble Baroque choir works under the direction of choirmistress Tereza válková; leading young singers who perform on both concert and theater stages work together here, but here they are at home, which is known for the singing of the ensemble. It is pleasant that all are members of the choir and sing what is needed, whether it is a choir or a solo part.
