Should we talk about Eric Ter as a cult artist, cursed, or even about the double-edged formula of “the best kept secret in France”? Born in 1952 in the 15th arrondissement, in Paris, he will indeed celebrate his half-century of discographic existence next year with an indifference that will be described, if not general, to say the least polite. It must be said that from blunders to misunderstandings, and from disappointments to dead ends, his career testifies to a remarkable stubbornness and resilience (next to his, the saga of Anvil would almost belong to a fairy tale). Let us judge: from his complete marital status Eric Ter-Sarkissian, he started with the self-produced “Funky Bop” in 1974, and has published no less than 22 albums to date. Under the pseudonym of Eric Sirkel (Band), his successor appeared in 76 with the notorious charlatans of Charly Records, who were supposed to play him a good one, by outright reissuing the opus twenty years later under the name of Mick Taylor (for the questionable reason that the ex-guitarist of the Stones appeared there on four of his thirteen titles). Published in the collection “Giants of Rock” (Atlas editions), it goes without saying that this avatar feeds copiously from the flea market circuit, without any grace having however ever been given to its true author…
