“Aeris” is the ninth album of the ECM New Series with the lively and expressive music of Erkki-Sven Tuur. Olari Elts, a long-time advocate of Tuuri’s compositions, conducts the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra in captivating, highly concentrated interpretations of “Phantasma”, “De Profundis” and Tuuri’s tenth symphony “AERIS”, a tremendous drama of changing energies and interactions composed for horn quartet and orchestra.
The symphony consists of four movements that merge seamlessly into each other. Tuur: “Each movement expresses a different development between the soloist ensemble and the orchestra. Sometimes their motifs spread like memes in the orchestra, which begin to change and gradually develop a life of their own …“ The album was recorded at the Tallinn Concert Hall in Estonia.
