The program recorded on this CD is the ticket for a journey of a century and a half, i.e. the distance between the composition of the sonata “con accompagnamento” by Muzio Clementi (1792) and its transformation into the Trio ortodosso by Alfredo Casella (1936). The Trio op. 59 by Giuseppe Martucci (1882) represents an intermediate station.The route of this journey follows a story that is not unimportant and not surprising: it summarizes the importance and vicissitudes of the chamber music of Italian composers from the mid-18th century. In many texts on music history, this topic is treated in a note or at most in a paragraph, not even in a chapter.

The present recording, which presents a performance for piano, violin and cello, is a small artistic compensation, an aesthetic and formal clarification. It makes us consider and understand the role that Italian composers have played also in the specific field of non-theatrical music.
