Nifty Fifty is an album of Johan’s own compositions, recorded by some of the best musicians of European jazz, full of imaginative and melodious sound. The charm of the album lies in the lyricism of Leijonhufvud’s playing, the intimate and warm dynamics of the trio and his compositional meditation on the places and objects that inspire him. The title “Nifty Fifty” comes from Leijonhufvud’s other passion, photography. The trio takes you into their world, zooms in on rooms and objects and documents them with grace, sensitivity and great feeling, while at the same time creating a musically robust album that will outlast the signs of the times.The renowned Swedish guitarist and composer Johan Leijonhufvud is on the road all over the world as a bandleader and sideman and has played with such diverse artists as Benny Bailey, Till Brönner, Nils Landgren, Mark Murphy, Svante Thuresson, Anders Bergcrantz and Esbjörn Svensson. Johnny Ã…man is one of the most prolific sidemen in Sweden and has played bass with Billy Hart, Jerry Bergonzi and Gilad Hekselman. Niclas Campagnol is a Swedish drummer who studied in Dänemark. His CV is unique internationally, as he has played with artists such as Mike Stern, John Patitucci, Bob Mintzer, Cliff Richard, Belinda Carlisle and Mathias “IA” Eklund.

Leijonhufvud wrote Nifty Fifty in the 200-year-old country house of his family in the Nähe of the beach of Mossbystrand near Skivarp, Sweden, where he spent the summers as a child. The beach is a popular attraction in the area and offers 1500 meters of white sand. He serves as a backdrop for Leijonhufvud’s relaxed and poetic compositions, in which he carefully documents the places where he stays, through the scenes and objects surrounding him.

“Le Onde” (“The Waves” in Italian) is a mysterious, elegant mixture of contrapuntal melody lines and „brushed drums“. Leijonhufvud wrote the song when he was on an abandoned machine gun bunker on the beach of Mossbystrand saß, all the leaves were falling from the Bäumen, holding the faithful Hofner Jazzica in his hand, while setting the slow ocean waves in winter to music.
