Born in Marseilles in 1969, Joëlle GENISSON comes from a classical music background (Marseille conservatory); she was initially a pianist before becoming a guitar and a bass player.Her music took on a different direction after meeting Michel Petrucciani who revealed to her another approach of the instrument and with whom she would eventually take several Master Classes. Her sense of harmony and her perfect ear have led to her participating in different musical events in France and abroad, ranging from jazz to variety music, rock and the blues. She has thus been able to play in the opening sessions of Robben Ford’s concert with the American guitarist Wolf Mail. She has also taken part in duo-productions with Nicolas Bravin, the present guitarist of Louis Bertignac.
In the mid-90s, she discovers Latin music and in particular Brazilian music. This new musical passion leads to the creation of her own musical project and she dedicates her career to Latin music throughout the 2000s. During this period, she creates the « Latin Project » in 2006 which becomes a center of expression for Latin American musicians and singers but also for Italians, Spanish and Africans.

This project helps her career to take off towards the prestigious international 5 Continents Jazz Festival in July 2007 where she performs her own « Joëlle Génisson Latin Project » during the opening part of the Amercian musician Willy Deville’s concert. She has been able to ensure that this project continues to thrive as it accompanies her throughout the years. It has enabled the gathering of World Music musicians and singers which she supports through this initiative.
From that point onwards, she befriends some of her idols such as Marcus Miller, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Chucho Valdes and Eliane Elias who advise her and still follow her career. In 2011, she is chosen by the Cirque du Soleil but decides not to abandon her personal projects. Since then, she produces in France and in Europe and does about 60 concerts per year.
