Victoria, BC-based songwriter Kirsten Ludwig has a couple of albums under her belt, and she’s signed to Oscar St. Records for LP number three. The tune is a yearning, elegant ballad in which reverb-shrouded electric guitars and patient rhythms set the backdrop for Ludwig’s sighing melodies and wistful lyrics. It’s a dream-pop approach to alt-folk songcraft.

“Something I Wanted to Know” is about the nostalgia of a time when I felt like I was able to fully receive kindness and love, and the memory of not being, seemingly, completely poisoned by love in every sense. Underneath it all, I think the longing of the actual song does not come from the superficial “want” of a new partner, but the undeniable need of finding out how to treat myself with the kindness I had been looking for almost all of my life.
