Lamar Crowson – Benjamin: Concerto quasi una Fantasia & Concertino (1959/2018) [FLAC 24bit/96kHz]

Arthur Benjamin, best known for his Jamaican Rhumba and Storm Cantata (which played a pivotal role in Hitchcock’s movie The Man Who Knew Too Much) was also a fine conductor and virtuoso pianist. He led the Vancouver Symphony for three years, but otherwise performed primarily as a pianist. Not surprisingly, the two works for piano and orchestra on this definitive and only recording feature a devilish piano part, played here by Benjamin’s piano student, the American-born Lamar Crowson.
