Ljiljana Molnar-Talajić (Bosanski Brod, 30. December 1938. – Zagreb, 17. September 2007 she was a Bosnian and Croatian opera singer, soprano and music educator.
The last great Verdian voice, as the editor of Opera Music on Austrian radio Gottfried Cervenka recently claimed, Ljiljana Molnar-Talajić, was the star of the Vienna State Opera and the Verona Arena. Aida, under the direction of Zubin Mehta in 1969. at the festival Maggio Musicale Fiorentino began a World career, and Leonora in the power of fate were a real bait for the audience, and the criticism did not remain insensitive to, as she wrote, the indescribable beauty of her voice, which in all positions is so uniform, with so expressiveness, infinitely subtle, yet at the same time robust, airy and sweet — a voice Verdi could only wish for. Under the direction of Zubin Mehta, he became a world-renowned prima donna. In Verdi’s homeland they wrote: it is a passionate, great singer of vibrant phrase, dazzling heights of Opal Beauty, and the city of Parma awarded her the traditional plaque Verdi d’oro (Golden Verdi). She performed in the world’s largest opera houses, such as the Vienna State opera, Milan’s Scala, London’s Covent Garden, New York’s Metropolitan, and her performances were followed by reviews with titles such as the best Aida in the world, the diamond of the evening, the saviour who was cheered (when she took the norm from Montserrat Caballé in Vienna). She performed in Verdi’s Opera The Power of fate 18. March 1977. in the years at the Vienna State Opera, when Ljiljana Molnar-Talajić, although only a day after Montserrat Caballé’s performance at the Norma opera, came in large numbers to listen to extremely choosy Viennese opera lovers: the performance was marked by constant interruptions of the opera with applause of enthusiasm and chanting, culminating in a bow during the closing of the curtain. Once again, after performing in the Troubadour at Covent Garden, the rivalry between the two greatest sopranos of the Verdi repertoire in the Seventies ended in favour of Ljiljana Molnar-Talajić.
Her career was growing rapidly. The Vienna State Opera, in which she achieved six major roles and had 58 performances, was followed by Milan’s Scala, London’s Covent Garden and New York’s Metropolitan. She made her debut while studying at the Sarajevo Music Academy in 1959. as the Countess in the pyre of Figaro. Since 1960. until 1975. she has been a member of the Sarajevo opera since 1975. by 1980. a champion of the Croatian National Opera in Zagreb, she accepted the engagement at the Zagreb opera despite the invitations of the world’s greatest operas, and was a participant in her great belcantist moments, providing them in the most beautiful way in Troubadour and Krabuljna Ples, Don Carlos and Otello, and in many concerts of Verdi’s Requiem and her last premiere in Zagreb — Bellini Norma. A superb musical, with a pronounced sense of interpretation, she also achieved a great creation Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly for which she made in 1967. won a prize in Tokyo. She has also been working on her teaching since 1980.years at the Zagreb Music Academy, with whom she dealt with with great love until her death, and in her class came the renowned Croatian opera singer Sandra Bagarić. An uncompromising and brave opera diva, an accomplished musician and professor, the last Verdian voice of the world format, died on the 17th. September 2007 after a short illness in Zagreb.
