Anthony James Donegan (eng. Anthony James Donegan; April 29, 1931 — November 3, 2002), better known as Lonnie Donegan (eng. Lonnie Donegan) was a British musician, one of the most popular performers of the 50s — early 60s, known as the “King of Skiffle” (eng. King of Skiffle), is a genre that he developed and popularized. In 2000, Lonnie Donegan was awarded the Order of the British Empire, MBE, for his contribution to the development of British musical culture.Donegan’s 33 singles rose to the UK Top 30, three of them took the first place: “Cumberland Gap” (April 1957), “Gamblin’ Man / Putting On The Style” (June 1957), “My Old Man’s A Dustman (Ballad Of A Refuse Disposal Officer)” (March 1960).

In 1957, Donegan performed in the USSR at the Festival of youth and students.

Lonnie Donegan’s work had a huge influence on the early Beatles, The Rolling Stones and many other British artists of different generations. Among those who named him among the main influences were Jimmy Page, John Lennon, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Van Morrison.

The British Classic Rock magazine included Donegan in the list of the greatest guitarists of all time.
