The metaphor is well known in Eastern philosophy. Growing in mud and swamps, the lotus flower has come to symbolize purity, but also a kind of transcendence, a capacity to transform painful experiences and suffering into a form of beauty, peace and absolute perfection. In psychology, we also speak of resilience. This is the “Lotus Path”: the ability of an inner energy to draw on our darker sides to generate light. The process is represented here in musical form.
