On this autumn evening, Splendor opens its doors to the public birth of Ghazal, an album of poetry and music. As a lover of both art forms, Myrthe van de weetering always felt a desire to let the two go together in an equal and harmonious way. In traditional songwriting, one of the two often gets the upper hand. But surely it must be possible for poetry and music to coexist autonomously in a way that enhances and does not overshadow each other?‘One evening I was mindlessly browsing through some poems in search of something with a useful form, when I was suddenly shaken awake. I had stumbled upon a poem that sucked me in with unprecedented power. The shape was perfect. The repetition dictated a pulse that I could not ignore. The words were mysterious and strange, clearly not Western. And the analogy of a window repeatedly passed, behind which another universe loomed over and over again, each universe so endless that I could get lost in it forever. And I surrendered.

I picked up my guitar and the music came out all at once, as if it already existed and my body was just a medium. That night I dreamed about Ghazal. I performed a ritual dance next to a fire under a starry sky in another time, in another place. I woke up because my body was dancing.’’
