This year’s April Fool’s Day marks the 10th anniversary of the record debut of Niechęci. On April 1, the two previous albums of the group were released: “Śmierć w soft furku” (2012) and “[self-titled]” (2016). Two years later, also in April, the band recorded material for “Live at Jazz Club Hipnoza”. However, the 10th birthday will not be a pretext to celebrate nostalgic anniversaries. On the contrary, on April 1, 2022, the third premiere album of Niechęci, entitled “Unsubscribe” will be released. An album different from the previous ones. As the musicians themselves say: “Until now, we have focused on telling personal stories, we have played ‘about ourselves’. This time we decided to “go outside”. Make music in which we try to capture the mood of the (difficult) times we live in. It was not supposed to be an album about a pandemic, about ecology, about a political, social, climate, migration crisis, etc. Our filter was to observe the human psyche. We wanted to make an album about contemporary neurosis, about the fears and fears that accompany all of us. About living in the realities of constant chaos, constant surprises, too fast changes. Without resorting to easy journalism, always focusing on what those times “are doing to all of us in our heads.”
Recorded in the middle of the lockdown, away from civilization, among the landscapes of the Kłodzko Valley, the album turned out to be a kind of therapy. Hence the “Unsubscribe”, that is, the desire to unsubscribe from the reality overloaded with stimuli, to stop the incessant inflow of information, and to seek peace. The contemporaneity is also traced in the musical layer. The musicians were inspired by hip-hop, trap, electronics and techno. Avoiding obvious quotes, using subtle allusions. Because “Unsubscribe” is also the most mature album in the band’s discography. So far, rushed in search of the limits of its own expression, Reluctance focuses on a more conscious narrative. He is not afraid of silence, peace, thoughtful arrangements, medium and slow tempos… But no worries: who liked the band for unparalleled noise, will still find it here in abundance.
