The creative path of New York guitarist Peter Hand began with the blues. In college, his idols were B.B. King, Albert King, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Mike Bloomfield. But gradually Peter’s tastes changed. He became interested in jazz and is faithful to this music to this day. Hand graduated from Berklee College in Boston, received a bachelor’s degree in composition and, returning to his native New York, began to work actively as a sideman, as a leader of his own ensembles, and as an arranger and composer. He has collaborated with Lee Konitz, Houston Person, George Coleman, Carmen Lundy. Peter Hand has established himself as a subtle interpreter of standards and a fan of Brazilian music. However, his passion for the blues in his younger years makes itself felt to this day. Jazz & Blues Report characterizes him as follows: “Hand is a wonderful guitarist in the spirit of Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, Grant Green and the like with a pronounced blues feeling.” Hand has worked a lot in the field of big band music. After three successful works with the big bands – The Wizard of Jazz: A Tribute to Harold Arlen (2009), Out of Hand (2014) and Hand Painted Dream (2019) – Peter decided to approach the project with a small staff: they became the album Blue Topaz, his first Hand at Whaling City Sound.
