It has been more than four decades since Peter Schilling landed a #1 hit in the German charts with “Major Tom (Completely Detached)” – the song stayed at the top of the hit parade for eight weeks.

Together with his debut album Error In The System (1982), the single marked the beginning of an unprecedented musical career for the artist from Stuttgart – a worldwide success story that stretched from Europe to the USA, where his English version of “Major Tom (Coming Home)” reached # 14 on the Billboard charts. The album and the single also reached # 1 on the Canadian charts and were awarded several prizes.

In the following years, Schilling remained active as a composer, lyricist, performer, arranger and producer. He is still on the pulse of time, as the new songs of this collection impressively prove.”In addition, fortunately, a large system in the living room is no longer necessary for this listening experience. “Major Tom” begins with a dance in the listening room, while drums and bass settle on the three front speakers. Schilling’s whispered backing vocals mostly come from the front treble speakers, while the harmonies emerge from the back. Interestingly, the lead vocals come mainly from the upper speakers during the chorus.

During the intro of “Starting With Myself”, the drums appear in the treble, along with the harmony vocals and the “you-are-there” atmosphere. The lead vocals are largely limited to the center speaker this time, while the rhythm section thunders down from above again.

Synthesizers alternate between the rear and rear speakers in “Into Your DNA”, while the backing vocals again come from above. “Terra Titanic” is definitely a highlight of the immersive presentation, with the wave-like synths swirling around everywhere and the metallic percussion crashing in the front treble speakers.

“World Hold On” is another highlight, in which the keyboards move again throughout the listening room and the superimposed vocals penetrate into the top speakers. During the chorus, a sequencer quickly swirls around in the treble, which has a great effect.
