Fairly to the day exactly 30 years after Philipp Fankhauser’s first album BLUES FOR THE LADY with star guest Margie Evans, his 16th record will be released. From December 13, 2019, he will go on tour with the new songs. Let Life Flow brings a few surprises – musical, stylistic, linguistic and personal. Philipp Fankhauser is and remains a blues musician with heart and soul. That time for general reassurance. But what he started with his last album “I’ll Be Around” in 2017, he continues with a sense for subtle nuances. The soul-soaked blues continues to be his strong point and the Try-My-Love-esque Fankhauser / Walker ballads are not missing on his new album.
Philipp Fankhauser, born in 1964 in Thun and entitled to live in the deepest Emmental, in a hustle and bustle, sings a song on Berndeutsch for the first time. Actually, no wonder, if someone already called Fankhauser. And yet, this has never happened in the last 33 years of his career. Whether there will be a whole dialect album in the future? At any rate, “Chasch Mers Gloube” is a wonderful tribute to one of the great Swiss songwriters, Hanery Amman. Philipp Fankhauser spent his teenage years in Locarno and accordingly he grew up mainly with Italian music. With a reason to reinterpret “Milano” by Lucio Dalla.
Philipp: “Dalla was my one and all and in recent years, I felt more and more desire to sing my favorite song of him. It was not easy to sing Lucio Dalla, but with “Milano” I was able to do the “abbastanza bene”, at least that is what my teacher -myomaestro- from Ticino times, Maurizio Colombi, said.
Flo Bauer, the young singer and guitarist from Alsace, is a guest on “Let Life Flow” and has also written the music for two Dennis Walker songs. He will perform a large part of the concerts as Philipp Fankhauser’s guest on stage.
At the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2018, Philipp Fankhauser met again Kenny Neal, Bluesman from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and heard him play the song “Let Life Flow”. “May I take this?” Philipp Kenny asked afterwards. He was allowed and did it! And Kenny Neal drove from Baton Rouge to Jackson in July 2019 to give the song his very own guitar sound.
