Acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter Robert Forster announces his 8th solo album “The Candle And The Flame” in 2023.
It is an album where Forster has taken a very different path from his previous works. The first single is titled “She’s A Fighter.” It reveals just part of what became a journey of making music with his family and friends to find joy and comfort in the face of adversity.Robert explains, “‘She’s A Fighter’ is the last song I wrote for the album ‘The Candle And The Flame’. I wrote the music for it in June 2021. I liked the melody and fast energy of the song, but I didn’t know what it would be about yet. In early July, Karin Bäumler, my wife and musical companion for thirty-two years, received a cancer diagnosis. In late July, facing a series of chemotherapy treatments, Karin spoke of fighting for her health and finding a way through chemotherapy to recovery.
The phrase ‘She’s A Fighter’ came to mind. I liked it. And I knew immediately that it would fit my new tune. I just needed one more line for the lyrics. ‘Fighting for good’. The song was ready. I had written my first two-line song. I had just eclipsed the Ramones! Because the song had so much meaning to us, we decided to record it as a family. That’s the only time that happens on the album. Karin sings and plays xylophone. Our daughter Loretta plays electric guitar. Our son Louis plays guitar, bass and percussion. And I’m strumming wildly on an acoustic guitar and singing. And that’s ‘She’s a Fighter.'”
