An intimate record with dreamlike traits that, while maintaining a minimalist formation, ranges between different jazz languages with great attention to the melodic aspect. This is how Inward Songs, Sara Rotunno’s latest work, comes out on Wednesday 18 December on the Emme Record Labal label. The album is a collection of eight tracks, five originals and three jazz standards, presented in the essential and intimate formula of the acoustic duo composed of Sara Rotunno on vocals and Francesco Schepisi on piano, with the addition of tenor and soprano sax by Enzo Bacco on two tracks. The original tracks, composed by Sara Rotunno, and the arrangements of the covers reflect a deeply introspective musical journey, as the album title suggests. The sound evolves from track to track, ranging from typically Wheelerian atmospheres, which dominate the general mood, to hardboppian echoes, to forays into Argentinian folk music. Each piece opens like a window on intimate feelings and impressions of the world, creating a sound experience that combines contemporary jazz with the emotional power of words.BIOGRAPHY: Sara Rotunno is a jazz singer, composer and arranger. Among her most significant projects is her participation in the Duni Jazz Choir, directed by Mario Rosini, with whom she has trodden important stages and obtained important awards, including: a tour together with Fabrizio Bosso and Simona Bencini (2018) in the cities of Rome, Forlì and Prato; second place at the Global Music Awards for the song ‘Love Collision’ (2018) and the recording of the album ‘Wavin’ Time’ in 2022, after winning the “La Musica di Sofia” award in the same year. For (and with) the Duni Jazz Choir, he edited the arrangement of ‘Frosty The Snowman’ (2023) and participated in the soundtrack of the film ‘Who Kidnapped Jerry Calà?’ (Vargo Film, 2023) directed by Sandro Di Stefano.
In 2020 he collaborated with Warner Music Italy as a backing vocalist for Achille Lauro’s album ‘1920’, together with Dino Plasmati’s big band ‘The Untouchable Band’, with whom he also recorded the album ‘Taste of Jazz’ (2022). In 2023, she released her first unreleased album with the neo-soul group ‘The Synthomatics’ entitled ‘Take Care’, winning the ‘Record’ call for entries from Puglia Sounds; the project gave rise to a promotional tour in 2024 that toured Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. In the same year, she was selected for the ‘All You Have to Do is Play!’ initiative by Emme Produzioni, which financed the production of her next jazz album of unreleased tracks ‘Inward Songs’, due out on 18 December 2024.
