It’s not just an unearthed Tomasz Stańko recording—THE COPENHAGEN SESSION VOL. 1 is a time capsule. A snapshot from 2016, when one of Europe’s great jazz voices walked into a room of younger musicians and decided to build something—not as a teacher, not as a leader, but as an equal.
The story behind this release has floated through Denmark and Poland like a half-remembered tune for nearly a decade. A legendary trumpeter visits a Danish summer jazz workshop, where he’s invited to teach. He joins an ensemble of young Scandinavian and Polish musicians, and together they record a full session that vanishes into the vaults. Now, seven years after Stańko’s passing, THE COPENHAGEN SESSION VOL. 1 finally sees daylight. And it’s worth the wait.
