Sheena and the Rokkets are an influential Japanese rock band that first formed in 1978. They are known for their diverse sound which, while originally electro-influenced, later branched out into experimenting with punk and hard rock. The group went on hiatus in 2002, greatly decreasing activities to only performing one live show a year, but officially returned in 2006, later releasing “Japanik” in 2008, their first release in eight years. In February of 2015, frontwoman Sheena passed away from cervical cancer at the age of 61. This naturally put the band’s future in limbo, although it was announced by Rokkets guitarist Makoto Ayukawa (Sheena’s husband) that the band would resume activities, with him taking over for vocal duties, although their daughter, Lucy, has been known to join the group and perform live occasionally. In November of 2018, The Rokkets released “Lemontea”, their first single release since 2014, and their first without Sheena.
