This seems to be a new trend that is set to continue: just as Dust Bolt have done recently, relatively young metallers who once focused entirely on thrash are now increasingly turning away from it and towards more contemporary sounds. On PALACE FOR THE INSANE, released in 2020, Shrapnel simply played a fine shred. That and IN GRAVITY are worlds apart. The four Brits around guitarist Chris Martin (no, not the one from Coldplay) often dance at the interface between thrash or groove metal and modern, steely sounds. The title track (including a guest contribution from Bleed From Within singer Scott Kennedy) would also look good on Trivium. According to the band, ‘Amber Screams’ is inspired by Gojira, Deftones and Alice In Chains.
