Drummer Srdjan Ivanovic releases his new album “Modular”. With his quartet, the musician has developed a new concept of compositional modules. Ivanovic skillfully plays with Western melodies, combines them with Eastern rhythms and thus creates an innovative jazz experience.Growing up in Greece, the Bosnian-born son of a classical guitarist and composer was confronted with music at an early age. Inspired by his father’s music sessions, Srdjan Ivanovic discovered his love for sticks and drums. Finally, he started playing the drums and took lessons with the renowned Greek drummer George Polychronakos. Later Srdjan Ivanovic studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and at the Utrechs Conservatorium in the Netherlands. There, the musician received a scholarship from the Prins-Bernhard Foundation for studying in New York City. In addition, Ivanovic has won several prizes such as the Dutch Jazz Competition at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Meanwhile, Srdjan Ivanovic lives in Paris, having traveled around the world as a leader with the Blazin‘ Quartet. In addition to composing his latest arrangement “Modular”, the drummer works as co-leader of the rock-jazz-Balkan group Xénos, as well as the 11-member Nikolov-Ivanovic Undectet. As a composer, Srdjan also wrote music for film and theater and can be heard as a drummer on over twenty albums as a sideman. Furthermore, he performs again and again with various groups in Paris. Ivanovic’s music is described by renowned jazz magazines such as the Jazz Journal (UK) as “refined and carefully staged”. With his new album “Modular” Srdjan Ivanovic takes his compositional creations to the next level. The fusion of experimental, Western jazz with roots from the Balkans creates a refreshingly new and captivating sound image.
