Steve McCoy, born in Las Vegas, Nevada, is not only a true desert rat, but a rare “double native”, who’s father was born there as well.
A veteran of numerous local music scenes that have come and gone, and even more bands that have come and gone, Steve started as a fan of local bands – listening to them, watching them, then playing in them, then eventually got into recording and touring with them.
Listening to any and every style of music, entertained and influenced by all sounds, he has been accused by bandmates of “Steve-izing” everything, implying some sort of personal style.“I’m particularly interested in music that contains varying amounts of improvisation bookended with some interesting structure, but I really love anything that involves honest expression that resonates with me, or some kind of instrumentation that interests me, regardless of wether or not it involves improv. Great players of not only guitar, but all instruments and great vocalists, of all styles – anything you might have listened to on your College Radio Station’s Alternative Rock show throughout the 80’s – then, of course, growing up in the 70’s and 80’s and hearing radio go from AM to FM, well, you can imagine what popular music would have had its influence on me. The influence that local Las Vegas bands and musicians from the 1980’s had on me cannot be overstated – it was huge.”
As more of Steve’s music is recorded and released, you can expect to hear an ever widening variety of styles and emotional/musical modalities explored and expressed.
