A year full of T. Rextasy. formed in London in 1967 under the name Tyrannosaurus Rex by Marc Bolan (vocals, guitar) and Steve Peregrin Took (percussion, backing vocals), the band renamed itself T. Available on five CDs or six LPs and as a double LP on white vinyl with the highlights, “1972” brings together studio recordings, radio and live recordings by Marc Bolan and T. Rex.
After T. Rex had already become superstars in 1971 with the number one album “Electric Warrior” and several number one and top three singles, they reached the next top positions in 1972: “Telegram Sam” and “Metal Guru” made it to number one in the UK, “Children Of The Revolution” and “Solid Gold Easy Action” to number two and the album “The Slider” to number four. In the press there was talk of “T. Rextasy”.
The new T. Rex box sets include the “Slider” album, the “Live At Wembley The Matinee Show” album plus two previously unreleased 1972 mixes of “The Evening Show,” “Born To Boogie: The Soundtrack Album” released in full for the first time, Marc Bolan’s “US Radio Sessions,” “T. Rex On The BBC 1972” featuring a rare version of “Telegram Sam” from the “Top Of The Pops” Christmas show released 50 years after the original single was released, the 1972 B-sides and the “T. Rex Fan Club 1972 Christmas” flexi disc. The respective tracklisting of “1972” can be found below.
The accompanying booklet includes a specially written 1600-word introduction by producer Tony Visconti and a brand new 12,000-word essay by Bolan expert Mark Paytress, author of the definitive Bolan biography. Also included are many previously unpublished photos taken by Keith Morris in 1972.
