The Tokyo String Quartet were an international string quartet that operated from 1969 to 2013. Regarded as one of the most renowned chamber ensembles of the world, the Tokyo Quartet—Martin Beaver and Kikuei Ikeda (violins), Kazuhide Isomura (viola) and Clive Greensmith (cello)—has collaborated with a remarkable array of artists and composers during its 43-year career, built a comprehensive catalogue of critically acclaimed recordings and established a distinguished teaching record. Performing over a hundred concerts worldwide each season, the quartet has a devoted international following across the globe. An exclusive contract with DG firmly established it as one of the world’s leading quartets.

Their upcoming album of works by String Quartets by Haydn & Brahms is released on 6 February as part of DG’s debut series, which presents first or very early recordings by artists who went on to build considerable careers. Listen to a second pre-release track, the third movement of Brahms’s String Quartet No. 2 in A Minor.
