With the present recording – Modern Bridges – the Swiss Tetrapod Ensemble – the flutist Nuriia Khasenova, the clarinetist Damien Bachmann, the cellist Christoph Croisé and the pianist François–Xavier Poizat – proves how serious and yet entertaining and how universally comprehensible contemporary music can be and be felt when you build “modern bridges” for it. This CD is the fruit of many years of cooperation and international concert activity of these four musicians and combines “classics” of the border zone, the crossover between classical and jazz like Nikolai Kapustin with well-known contemporary composers of this genre like Daniel Schnyder or Aleksey Igudesman.Jazz and chamber music go together perfectly: even a jazz combo is basically nothing more than a chamber ensemble, which is about the subtle art of balance and fine tuning. And George Gershwin (1898-1937) has already created timelessly valid examples of works in the first half of the 20th century on how jazz rhythms and blues harmonics can be transferred into a “classical” formal language. Musicians such as Alexander Zfasman (1906-1971) or Claude Bolling (1930-2020), who achieved great success with their compositions and crossover projects, followed in his footsteps.

The musicians of this recording also contribute to this genre, which transcends too narrow limits and is fascinating. They merge tradition with modernity. This concern is already evident in the four–part arrangement of the program – a reference to the cyclic form design of the classical sonata or the symphony.
