Wigwam, who released two albums in February 1971, lived through the richest period of his career. Drummer Ronnie Österberg and keyboardists Jim Pembroke and Jukka Gustavson had been joined by young bass sensation Pekka Pohjola. The Poppop radio show, recorded at the cigarette-smoking N-Club in Helsinki, testifies to how the Wigwam lurched precariously but at this point still fruitfully between the Earth and the sky. While Österberg and Pembroke maintained pre-Americana influences, Gustavson and Pohjola sought more progressive spheres. Now, for the first time in its entirety, the gig offers such jagged pop strokes as the majestic art-rock excesses of the upcoming Fairyport album.
