Cecilia Sanchietti Jazz Project – Circle Time (2015) [e-Onkyo FLAC 24bit/96kHz]

“Circle Time” in humanistic psychology is a working group methodology, which makes use of alternative communication techniques. Participants are disposed in a circle setting and are all at the same level. The circle is a space of discover, debate, exchange, with no judgments or mistakes. It allows a communitarian and cooperative dialogue, where participants’ emotions are protected and taken into consideration and the outcomes represent the personality of each one. This album is called “Circle Time” because it reproduces the same setting. Through interplay and jazz improvisation, the group proposes, encourages and includes the expression of each musician. This made it possible to propose original tracks. However, this album represents even more the Circle Time, because the core inspiration is an interaction of styles, in particular ethnic, jazz, afro music. It’s a journey. Musicians and composers enjoyed playing with sounds, harmonies and rhythm, mixing them and never flowing into a specific one. After all, the performers themselves are come from different musical background, not only jazz. This guarantees more personality to the project. Cecilia: “Circle Time” is also a way to lead the groove in the “circular” way, typical of jazz music. Performers play, dance and circulate with it, lose it and find it again (always knowing where it is). The sound becomes sweet, soft, colored, charming, and this helps the drummer to composes sweet melodies, never forgetting his role. The project was born also for this reason, for giving space to the creative expression of drummer.

Registrato a Gennaio 2015, “Circle Time” nasce nel 2013 come un’idea progettuale jazz con contaminazioni etniche/afro e si è poi sviluppato grazie alla competenza e al talento dei musicisti che hanno accompagnato Cecilia nella sua realizzazione: oltre al quartetto di base, il disco si avvale dell’importantissimo supporto di Stefano Scatozza e Federica Zammarchi. Attraverso l’interplay e l’improvvisazione jazzistica il gruppo propone, stimola e contiene l’espressione di ciascun artista. Musicalmente è un viaggio interattivo tra stili – in particolare jazz, etnica e afro – giocando con sonorità, armonie, ritmiche e modalità di conduzione appartenenti a diverse culture ma senza mai identificarsi in maniera definitiva con nessuna in particolare.Umanità in tempo dispari, come dire musica e società; binomio che quando interrotto rivela tutto il disagio cosmico di questo nostro pianeta perennemente in bilico.Ecco dunque una splendida intuizione progettuale e artistica, perché dietro c’è un’idea e, cosa ancor più importante, un sentimento aperto: un’espressione di umanità dove la libertà del jazz attrae i legami sociali e accoglie le diverse identità, accennando solo come un pretesto narrativo a un jazz tribale ma, in realtà virtuoso, trasgressivo – e perciò civile – fortemente contemporaneo; oltre le sue origini, quando era storicamente la musica espressione di dolore e sfruttamento. Un tema, questo, circolare nel tempo della storia e il tempo, qui sviluppato dalle ritmiche sul tema musicale, fa circolare tutti gli assoli dei musicisti mettendo in chiaro la perfetta adesione al titolo di questo progetto artistico; che alterna colori, momenti ed atmosfere in un linguaggio armonico e universale, quale la musica è (e dovrebbe continuamente essere). “Circle Time” è intriso di un jazz antropologico che sogna un nuovo umanesimo cosmopolita e qui, almeno musicalmente, utopicamente integrato. -Dario Zigiotto
