“Contemporary Soul Jazz” is probably the best way to describe Elmar Frey’s music. This brand-new septet presents bluesy and melodic compositions played with a lot of verve, underpinned with a rich groove and peppered with cheeky brass arrangements.

Elmar Frey, a sought-after sideman in the jazz scene as a drummer, steps out of the shadows with “Seven Colors” and once again acts as bandleader, composer and arranger. He has expanded his earlier sextet (“News From The Past” 2005), with another horn player, which makes the band sound even fuller and more colourful. An illustrious horn section meets a hard-swingin’ rhythm section.
