The Focusyear Band 22, which is active on the jazz campus of the FHNW University of Music and the Musik-Akademie Basel, is also presenting itself internationally this year: for the first time two pianists, Julia Perminova from Russia and Yvonne Rogers from the USA, are playing in the band. The rhythm section will be complemented by Brazilian bassist Thiago Alves and Canadian drummer Aaron Dolman. The wind section consists of Alden Hellmuth (USA) and Roberto Nieva (Spain), both on alto saxophone, the Ukrainian trumpeter Dima Bondarev and the Spanish flautist and trombonist Fernando Brox.Every year the ensemble is put together anew: the members are selected by a top-class jury of international musicians from a large number of applications received worldwide. The Focusyear Band 2 has found its own sound very rausch. The unusual instrumentation with two very different pianists and two very different alto saxophonists offers exciting possibilities in terms of sound. All the musicians of the ensemble have their very individual, promising, solo sound and expression, which they bring to the overall sound.

Over the course of the year, this ensemble was able to work out a new, full-length program every two weeks with luminaries of the scene who come to the jazz campus as coaches. As a result of these many intensive weeks, the eight young musicians now present their own compositions, which were also created during the year and released on their first album.
