This trio programme is dedicated to two of the most extraordinary songwriters of the 20th century and combines them with songs by Franz Schubert: Kurt Weill, most famous for his songs and theatre music, and the exceptional US artist Tom Waits. For both musicians, the popular music of their time such as blues, chanson, country or polka was an important source of inspiration and at the same time the starting point for their owncompositions. The milieu of their songs is the street, are the nightclubs and brothels or theharbourside. They tell melancholic stories about love and the abyss of our lives. In the style of Mendelssohn’s cycle “Songs without Words”, the trio has adapted a selection ofsongs and melodies by Schubert, Weill and Waits for trombone, piano and percussion and hasgiven them a new sound quality in their new arrangements. The music ranges from romanticsongs to lyrical ballads, hearty blues or burlesque waltzes to noisy, experimental grooves
