The search for the individual character of each instrument, for new tonal colours and the exploration of different registers are the focus of the artistic work of Romanian composer Violeta Dinescu and characterise this album. Cellist Katharina Deserno explores the extraordinary sound spaces of the scores with a great deal of imagination and a feel for the complex tonal language, an irrepressible desire to play and virtuoso technique.Violeta Dinescu and Katharina Deserno have enjoyed an intensive artistic collaboration for almost 10 years, which has resulted in the premieres of a wide variety of works. Dinescu has found “an ideal interpreter” in Katharina Deserno. “What is remarkable about Katharina Deserno’s interpretation is the coexistence of precision with the naturalness of the musical gesture, which determines an exceptionally expressive phrasing,” says the composer. This quality of penetrating the essence of musical thought is the secret of creative interpretation. Violeta Dinescu has composed several works for Katharina Deserno. Having already juxtaposed solo works by Dinescu with suites by Johann Sebastian Bach on her album “Suites & Roses” [Kaleidos, KAL6344-2], cellist Katharina Deserno now presents a programme of compositions for solo cello (from the last 30 years to the present day) by Violeta Dinescu – with enormous stylistic and technical variety.
