The Katrin Frauchiger/Michael Beck duo interprets standards by composers such as Cole Porter, Kurt Weill and Duke Ellington with their own sound, authentic expression, improvisational freedom and immediacy. In the chamber music jazz of this duo, listening on several levels and subtle interplay are of the utmost importance. Frauchiger/Beck intensively studied the technically demanding original versions as well as the countless reinterpretations by various jazz protagonists; this research led to an independent and contemporary musical language. As a singer and composer, Katrin Frauchiger is rooted in classical-contemporary music and is active in various collaborations at the interface with jazz in Europe. The pianist Michael Beck honed his jazz skills at Berklee and in the lively New York jazz scene of the 1990s before establishing his stylistically diverse activities as a composer and performer in Europe.
