Margaret Marian McPartland British-American jazz pianist, composer, writer and radio host.

She studied to play the violin and piano. During the Second World War, she gave concerts in military units. In 1945, she left for France, where she married musician Jimmy McPartland. After moving to the USA in 1951, she founded her own trio. In 1969, she founded the Halcyon Records record company. In addition to jazz music, she also performed classical works.

She was the author and host of the program “Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz”, aired from 1978 to 2011 on National Public Radio.
