Polly Paulusma follows up her critically acclaimed 2021 album “Invisible Music” with “The Pivot On Which The World Turns,” due out September 2022 via One Little Independent subsidiary Wild Sound.

Affectionately abbreviated as “Pivot,” the album marks a return to her unique brand of insightful songs that thematically navigate the shallows of love, sex and parenthood, death and grief, failure and success, violence and healing. Most poignantly, the album examines the role of women in our lives and in history from a variety of angles. As always, she delights in storytelling, exploring her characters with infectious melodies and a light delivery. Each track on the LP explores a different aspect of life that women play, “charting a progression for me through all the roles I take on in a day, a week, a year, a decade.””Snakeskin” is for the daughter, “Back Of Your Hand” is for the lover, “Dirty Circus” is for the mother, and so on. “I truly believe, after traveling the last few years, enduring grief and terror and discovering and turning around all these people I can be, that by learning how to love and learning again, so many of the harder and gnarlier parts of me can be forgiven and transformed into something better. The album began as a 24-track collaboration between friends who produced a song a month to help Polly with songwriting while she completed her PhD

For example, the album includes co-writes with Kathryn Williams, David Ford and novelist Laura Barnett. “I worked through the original batch of songs, and then some new songs came out. They keep doing that, but you have to draw the line somewhere.”
