Described as the ‘Balinese Joni Mitchell’, Sandrayati releases her haunting debut album on the Decca label. Produced by Olafur Arnolds, Sandrayati mixes her Indonesian heritage with captivating folk influences, using traditional Indonesian mantras as inspiration for a few songs, along with the South Asian zither (“Suara Dunia”, “Segala Baru)” and explores her sense of displacement from home in songs like “New Dawn” and “Holding Will Do.” Sandrayati’s lyrics are powerful and thoughtful, and her voice is simply enchanting (try listening to “Bending Birch” without getting chills).
