An aura of infinity permeates the tracks on the new Silent Skies album DORMANT. This is not the first time that singer Tom S. Englund (Evergrey) and the American pianist Vikram Shankar are conjuring together. But after SATELLITES and NECTAR, the two are getting a lot closer to a perfect sound picture. The pieces are cinematic, expansive, nostalgic, automatically make you think about your own life, the decisions you have made and the steps you have taken.DORMANT is the counterpart to a Darren Aronofsky film: elegantly and beguilingly beautifully filmed, at the same time marked by pain. Basically, this is neither rock nor pop, let alone metal. But the basic mood and Englund’s haunting, plaintive organ make Silent Skies finally the favorite band of all Katatonia fans who also want to hear something different.
