The award-winning pianist, composer and arranger Tim Allhoff and the Dominican monk, church musician and Gregorian Chant expert Father Robert Mehlhart come from very different worlds of life. However, by combining Gregorian chants with neo-classical piano sounds, they have developed a common musical language and, with their project “Meditations: Chant & Piano”, they are opening up a unique musical space of peace and inner contemplation.Together with the ensemble Cantatorium, which specializes in Gregorian chant, the two Munich-based musicians delicately interweave the free-flowing style of Gregorian chant with all its historical weight with new piano arrangements. Seemingly casually, a new and yet timeless musical space of calm and reflection is thus created.

It is the search for this special space of inner contemplation that connects the seemingly so different musicians. Here the pianist Tim Allhoff, who is touring the world, accompanies jazz trumpeter Nils Wülker one day, records with Robbie Williams the next evening and arranges classical songs for the soprano Fatma Said. There the Dominican monk Father Robert Mehlhart, who joined the Dominican Order after his time with the Regensburg Cathedral Priests, received his doctorate on Gregorian Chant, lives in the monastery and leads the vocal band and the orchestra of the Theatinerkirche in Munich.

Father Robert Mehlhart explains: “This music comes from the depths of history. It gives the soul room to breathe and to spread its wings, and I wish that our listeners experience this in the same way. This music gives you the feeling of freedom.”

And Tim Allhoff adds: “When you listen to this music, it does something to you. You immediately feel a sense of calm when the music embraces you.
