Melody trumpeter with a unique sound, Yoann Loustalot presents “Oiseau Rare”, a very personal musical project with piano and strings. Throughout the beaches there is a rich, sensitive and intimate sound atmosphere that delights the ear. A unique album, sensitive and rich in sensations. To discover and savor without restraint. In its common sense, the term “rare bird” evokes a person with exceptional qualities, an astonishing and difficult individual to find, someone who is impossible to replace. This term completely defines the composer and trumpeter who conceived the project of the same name… Yoann Loustalot.Visual of the album “Oiseau rare” by Yoann Loustalot

After “Slow” (2019), a true ode to slowness and “Yeti” (2022), a magical and poetic interlude, Yoann Loustalot returns with a new album, “Oiseau Rare” to be released on October 13, 2023 on Bruit Chic, the label that the musician himself founded.

Rich in numerous collaborations and around ten albums as leader or co-leader, the trumpeter’s career is today marked by this very personal and ambitious project with strings. For “Oiseau Rare” (Bruit Chic/L’Autre Distribution), the musician has composed an inspired repertoire through which the ear floats in an imaginary world where sensations, emotions, impressions, daydreams intersect.

Yoann Loustalot recorded his compositions surrounded by the piano of Julien Touéry, the double bass Ivan Gélugne or Matyas Szandai on three titles (Perdesi e Perdere, Tango de Fuga and À la drift) and a trio of strings with Marie-Violaine on the violin Cadoret, on viola Cécile Grenier, on cello Atsushi Sakai. The album was mixed and mastered from October 28 to 31, 2022 in La Buissonne Studios by Nicolas Baillard.

When listening to the album “Oiseau Rare”, the ear is not far from flight… flight into an intimate world where minimalist melodies, floating reveries, whispered questions, suggested reflections coexist. Nothing demonstrative, nothing superfluous or superlative… sweetness, rage, melancholy, tenderness, hope, regret… life… quite simply.

After the first notes of Nom de Plume played by the string trio, Yoann Loustalot’s flugelhorn invites you to follow him into his intimate garden. Lulled by the velvety sound of his instrument, we reflect with him and immerse ourselves in a luminous meditation. The leader’s trumpet becomes more incisive on Oiseau Rare and on a segmented rhythmic accompaniment with modern harmonies, it takes off in brilliant bursts.

Trick in a Dream underlines the minimalist style of the pianist who presents a sensitive and dreamlike melody, then joined by the strings and the trumpet with an ethereal sound. After the introduction with the strange and peaceful accents of the cello and piano of Peaceful Wood, the flugelhorn expresses itself with great harmonic and melodic accuracy. Like a peaceful and confident tightrope walker, he tints the colors of his musical world with pastel.
